Getting to Know Team Zacharias

Team Asham – Building Champions!

What is your team mantra or a quote the team looks to for inspiration?

“Good food and desserts“

What are your team goals?
Team goals are to make our mark in the women's field this year, secure our spot in the Olympic pre-trials where we will hopefully qualify for the trials, qualify for playoffs in Provincial Scotties and ultimately represent Manitoba at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts this year. We are trying to reach these goals while taking precautions and staying safe amidst the uprising of this pandemic.

Q. How long have you curled for and how did you get started?
A. I have been curling for 16 years. I first got involved with the sport because of my family. I was fortune enough to grow up in a family that had a lot of success in this sport which both my grandparents and parents curled competitively. Having remodels like my parents in this sport and following there love for the game has really helped me find my passion for curling.

Q. What are your curling achievements?
A. 2020 World Junior Gold Medalists, 2020 Canadian Junior Gold Medalist, 2019 Canadian Junior Bronze Medalist, 2019 World Junior Silver Medalist (5th player), 2018 World Junior Gold Medalist, 2018 Canadian Junior Gold Medalist, 2017 World Junior Bronze Medalist (5th player), 2016 World Junior Gold Medalist, 2016 Canadian Junior Gold Medalist

Q. What is your most memorable curling moment?
A. Most memorable curling moment would be the recent 2020 Curling Season, especially the at Canadian Juniors. This past year I decided to move to Manitoba with my fellow teammate from Nova Scotia in the hopes to represent Canada for our last junior year. Making the move out west to curl was a hard decision as we were moving to a province that had high caliber curlers. But only after a short time with this team things just went so smooth and we bonded almost immediately. The week we had at Canadian juniors was so special, and it is every curler’s dream to be able to walk down that sheet of ice after a final. Getting to walk the sheet of ice after a successful week one last time in my Junior career along side my best friends is a memory that I will remember forever.

Q. If you could give one piece of advice to a young curler, what would it be?
A. Believe in yourself, work hard, set goals, and most importantly find teammates that have the same goals/desires and dreams.

Q. How long have you curled for and how did you get started?
A. I have been curling for fourteen years. I started curling in my town's local junior program, run by my dad when I was six.

Q. What are your curling achievements?
A. 2020 Junior World Curling Champion, 2020 Junior Canadian Curling Champion, 2020 and 2019 Junior Provincial Curling Champion, 2017, 2016, and 2015 U18 Provincial Curling Champion, 2016 Optimist International Curling Champion

Q. What is your most memorable curling moment?
A. Walking down the ice after becoming Canadian Junior Curling Champions

Q. If you could give one piece of advice to a young curler, what would it be?
A. One thing that the world semi-final and final taught me last year is that you can never give up. Curling is a game of inches and even when it seems like there is no way of winning, there is always a chance as long as you haven't already given up in your mind.
